The Goal of the K.I.S.S. project was to build a bi-propellant liquid rocket engine to generate shock diamonds within 4 months as simply and as cheaply as possible. While learning as much as I could along the way all while of course having fun.
Test Stand Three is as in the name the third test stand that I have built to support Rocket testing operations. Out of all the stands, 3 is the most advanced and complex; having gone through the most revisions to support the evolution of the K.I.S.S. project. Because of this it has seen the most fire of any of them and carry’s the scars to prove it.
This phase of development was the first baby steps into understanding how liquid rocket engines work. For the most part, this was made up of stumbling in the dark and discovering many flawed assumptions as well as beginning to understand what equipment the test stand would need.
This was the first-ever test of the test stand and served more as a conceptual demonstration of what could be done as well as showing what systems would need to be changed and what others that would need to be developed.
This was the first test of the changes and new systems that had been added after Test Set Zero. Proving the key functionality and starting to hone the test stands design while also gathering the remaining information needed about the injector design.
Phase 2 of development was marked with a significantly better understanding of design requirements as well as a major overhaul of the test stand. all these updates met in phase two the development of the Small Beans engine could begin.
First pure oxygen tests and the beginning of the development of the Small Beans rocket engine.
Test Set 4 managed to achieve all of the goals I had set forth for the project, stable combustion (on the right) and a phenomenon called shock diamonds (on the left).
First, 3D Printed Metal Parts
Parts produced but out of spec after design analysis was canceled to work on Test Set Seven
This Project is a long-term hold while A.S.A.P. is built
Under Preliminary design
First prototype Has been built may undergo first tests in December 2021
